Intellectual Property Management

EDT / Intellectual Property Management

EDT’s intellectual property-related matters shall be reported to the Board of Directors at least once a year. The most recent report to the Board of Directors was made on April 30, 2024 and reads as follows:

Management Plans of Intellectual Property

In order to promote EDT’s employees to uphold the concept of continuous innovation and improve their work and carry forward this culture, increase their willingness to participate, protect business secrets and R&D results, maintain industrial ethics and competition order, and value and accumulate intellectual property rights, so as to enhance EDT’s competitiveness, the “Codes for Intellectual Property Rights” are specifically designated to be followed.

Protection and management of patent

We carry out patent portfolio by cooperating with various technology R&D projects to enhance our product value and profitability. We divide patents into several stages such as development and research, patent proposal, patent approval, promotion and application, and benefit evaluation, give bonus incentives to patent proposers according to different stages, and take it as a reference for employee performance evaluation to stimulate patent proposals. At the same time, a professional patent law firm is hired to assist in reviewing and submitting intellectual property application documents, so as to improve the probability of approval by the Intellectual Property Office. In the process of research and development, we will also entrust a patent law firm to conduct a patent search for related technologies and carry out patent portfolio to reduce the risk of infringement of the company.

At present, a customized PLM system is used to manage the application, maintenance and document control of intellectual property rights, so that R&D personnel can clearly grasp the progress of EDT’s intellectual property development.

Protection and management of trade secret

EDT has signed an employment contract with all employees, which stipulates the following provisions related to the protection of trade secrets:

  1. Employees shall exercise the due care of a good administrator to keep and maintain the confidentiality of trade secrets.
  2. Employees shall not divulge or use the trade secrets of the former employer.
  3. During the tenure of the employee, any trade secrets related to the duties completed by the employee shall be owned by EDT.
  4. After leaving EDT, employees should still abide by the obligation of confidentiality, shall not disclose any business secrets, and shall not use EDT’s trade secrets within one year, and reserve the right to legally retrospective and compensate the company for losses.

KPI Target

Based on the principle of 10% annual growth in the number of intellectual property rights, and with reference to the actual implementation of the previous year, the annual intellectual property KPI target is formulated, including the number of internal proposals and the number of intellectual property approvals approved by the Intellectual Property Office. In addition, the number of intellectual property rights that each department is required to contribute is stipulated, and it is hoped that everyone will work together to achieve KPI targets.

KPI 2023 2024
 Target  Achievement Target
The number of patents approved for display or CTP-related technologies 13 17 13
The number of applications that can be applied for intellectual property rights after examination 25 27 25

Implementation

Since 2006, EDT has been promoting the intellectual property management plan, and the main implementation in recent years is as follows:

  • With smart energy saving, net zero carbon emissions, and innovative cost down as the R&D goals, and actively deploy relevant patents for green environmental protection application technologies.

  • With virtual and real interaction technology as the R&D goal, and actively deploy relevant patents for intelligent user-machine-environment natural interactive application technology.

  • With intelligent perception technology solutions as the R&D goal, and actively deploy relevant patents for intelligent user-machine-environment interactive application technology.

  • With intelligent interactive display technology solutions as the R&D goal, and actively deploy relevant patents for intelligent user-machine interface sensing technology.

  • Each member of the relevant unit will serve as the intellectual property seed personnel, and the feasibility technology will be reviewed at a monthly meeting to convert it into patents or trade secrets, so as to strengthen EDT’s awareness and cognition of intellectual property protection and achieve the annual intellectual property KPI target.

  • Actively deploy AI-related technology patents and establish a R&D center to strengthen technology development and enhance the depth of patent portfolio.

  • The number of trade secret proposals is included in the strategic goals of the R&D department.

  • Adhering to the strategy of attaching equal importance to quality and quantity, the number of patents deployed has increased by 10% every year.

As of the end of 2023, all of EDT’s intellectual property achievements are as follows:

1. Number of patents:

  • Certificated:243(of these, 132 are still valid)
  • Applying:6

2. Number of trade secrets: 89(including the design and improvement of manufacturing processes and jigs)
